*Note: "Fred" is a hen although i will refer to him as a boy* last night fred seemed fine, but today when i opened up the door to let them free range, they all ran out except him. i picked him up and set him out side, and he slowly walked to my ATV and laid down under it. he wouldnt move so i had to slowly drive over him. he then got up and sat right by a wall. his comb and waddle are pale, his tail feathers are down, and he isnt moving very much. he will walk short distances but i carried him up to my front yard by the other chickens, and when they walked back toward the coop he didnt fallow, he just kept stnading there until i picked him up and carried him down. he wasnt very intersted in bread, unlike the rest of the flock and his crop is soft and squshy as described in 'sour crop'. he is 1 years old, a welsummer, and has been laying as far as i know. we usually get 6 to 7 eggs but only got 5 yesterday so im not sure weather it was him or not who didnt lay. the first pic was taked a couple weeks ago, you can see how red his comb is. the other 2 pics were taken today, you can see his tail feathers down and his comb/waddle is pale. PLEASE HELP! im worried about him

Could be several things. Is she eating/drinking to your knowledge?
Have you felt her abdomen to see if she could be eggbound?
If you think it could be sour crop have you started treatment for that?
Also, has she developed any more symptoms since your original post?

Have you womed her and dusted/sprayed her for mites? Could be either of those--I would do both. Good luck!

1-she has eaten and drinken very little that i know of
2-im not sure how to check for egg bound
3-i didnt want to start treatment until i knew for sure.
4-i havent gone out this morning yet, but ill check

i just checked for mites, didnt see any.
his crop was still soft and squishy, but his tail feathers seemed like they were up a little. should i take him to the vet? hes not just a laying hen, but a pet. he wriggled a little bit when i picked them up.

You know, if you have a vet that will see your bird, that is exactly what I would do. Most of us don't have a vet that will see our birds.
Please keep us posted on her and good luck to you.

i dont know if i have a vet who will see him, but even if i did, i dont have much money. today he seemed a little more perky. he came out when i opened the door to free range and started scratching. his feathers were up and i think his comb was a little redder, but im not sure. he seemed like he felt better bur his crop is still squishy as if he hasnt eaten. i felt the other chickens and they had food in their crop

I say worms. Mine just looked like that. I wormed mine and she is 100% better. Where I am from I got a wormer called piperzine. I have used it about a year ago and it worked well too.

Just my imput, I am not an expert just knowing from what I have done with my chickens.

but it could also be crop issues if it hssn't went down in a day.
