Maybe I've missed something on this thread but city ordinances on the number of chickens allowed may have nothing to do with chicken housing.
As an example: a city allows 1 chicken per 2,000 square feet of property. A 100' by 100' lot (10,000 square feet) could have 5 chickens, one might think.
However, in a separate ordinance, a structure for housing the chickens cannot be sited anywhere closer than 90' from a property line. The exact center of that property is only 50' from a property line.
No structure on the property would be legal for the housing of chickens.
I say this because one of the cities in my part of the world has these 2 ordinances but only the number of chickens on a lot appears in the LORE information.
