Chicken love- "The grossest thing I've ever seen"

I love my chickies every day. All day actually lol. I have meat birds out back in the old run and dh hasn't had time to build my new and iimproved coop yet. So that leaves my young little roo who hasn't found his voice thankfully and my to pullets. The stay in a play pen in the living room when they are not running around. Mind you that I always talk to them and if you were to walk by my house you would think I had someone over. I hug my little guy everynight and ruffle the feathers of my girls ( they don't like hugs ) lol. Its not gross at all. Although 9 out of 10 people I know would agree with your girlfriend. But hey I think I'm happier then they are.

As soon as I sit down in the yard, at least two of my chickens hop up on the arms of the adirondack chair and want to be petted. Sometimes they fly up on the back, too. It's very soothing to me and I'm assuming it is to them as well, or they wouldn't be there.

...here is my foster son with one of his 2 favorite chickens..Sunshine(aracauna)...she follows him all around, tugs at his clothes when he's not paying attention to her..and hops up on him whenever he sits down!..

That is to cute!!! One of my old roos used to sit on me and then I wouldn't be able to get out of the run because I have to duck under the doorway lol. I had to call dh out the first night to help me because I wanted to make sure they did ok their first night out. I had one on each arm and one on my back lol.

lol...yeah its amazing how much some of them crave attention from us!..his other favorite is a buff orp.,..Violet..(..lol..he named them)..its always those 2 following him around..it really is cute..

......now MY girl is my avatar..Penny..shes by baby!...Wendy

How have you facilitated your chicken's appreciation of being kissed and hugged? I would love to scoop my girls up and hug them but they don't like it. If I am gentle I can rub their chest with the back of a finger. And one of them was hatched by me and imprinted on me. This one will follow me everywhere, but doesn't like being lifted. She'll hop on my lap though.

ETA: Do you grab them, let them flap and fuss and hope that they eventually get over it?

I have at least two milk crates and one bucket I use for this very purpose. Those that want to come and sit on my knee and be petted and talked to or use a shoulder are welcome to it. I'll sit in the various pens just to observe things about them. It's a bonding thing.

Mine are a bunch of cucumbers. Most like being picked up. The others will tolerate it. I can think of 9 out of the 18 that LOVE it. They'll follow you around pecking your legs until you do. What most of my girls like is once you've picked them up and petted their waddles etc is to carefully place their head in the space between your chin and chest. You don't really apply any pressure. Just let them kind of feel safe and secure there. They'll nuzzle their heads in towards your neck to try and get a tighter fit. I wondered why they like it. They're fine, they can breath and everything. It lasts for 20 seconds or so, then they wiggle out. There have been times though that they want to stay like that!!!

I love it when you've got one who really loves to be petted and they close their eyes. I have a couple who sit there and would rather get loved on than eat I swear! They're more like cats and dogs!

Well, I have this one hen who always is on my lap. Even when I'm ridin a horse she still jumps up on me and rides along! I finally gave up tryin to stop her, it dont do no good LOL!
