Chicken math prevailed!

Buffaloes are pretty common livestock where I live, so I didn't bothered posting pictures.
First pic is of the buffaloes in the fields, they only return to get milked. Second pic is of a first time mom. Newly delivered moms are kept home for extra care.

Daughters are always convincing, aren't they? My sister convinced my father to buy buffaloes. Now I have to milk them.

Oh! THAT kind of buffalo! In America we call those "water buffalo!" I thought you meant these (below), American bison, which are commonly called buffalo here. I couldn't imagine anyone milking one of these!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I love roosters. I have 3 (Jersey Giant, Marans, and Easter Egger), and I honestly need another big one so my Jersey has someone to bump chests with. Maybe a Brahma. Can't find any more Jersey Giant breeders here, my top rooster was a miracle. He's my best friend, that's why his name is Hero. I wish more people would give roos a chance. Of course, that would make the Chicken Math MUCH worse, wouldn't it?

I always have one or two roosters. One year I got rid of all my adult birds and couldn't wait until my cockerels grew up enough to crow-was too quiet. Nothing funnier than when they first start and it sounds like they are being strangled.

Yes, the true buffalo of genus bubalus. Bison are from genus bison and subtribe bovina, more closely related to cows.

Not yet, we are working on integrating our 4- 12+ wk olds with the 22wk olds. this is a slow process as our BR is a bit of a bully sometimes. We currently have the young girls safely enclosed in a pin within the coop so they can all get used to each other, next week we will begin the field trips with the girls intermingling together with out barriers. I just hate the "pecking order" hoping this goes more smoothly than I'm anticipating, I expect some bulling but do not want to see a full on throttle of our young girls. but back to chicken math we want to add 2 Chicks next spring, i believe in chicken math 1+1= about 4-6 HA !! Oh, the Hatchery catalog is oh so dangerous, just reading about you ordering one had me flipping back through it again. Our chicks from Meyer came in tip top condition. i was very impressed with the packing of those delicate baby chicks (see pics)

I ordered a hatchery catalog.

Back in about April(I think) I ordered a bunch of catalogs, made an entire binder of them... never ended up ordering from anywhere this year, but I have a list.

I'm so good at chicken math, I surprise even myself! Today, we picked up 4 more chicks (2 Cochins, and 2 buff Brahmas), bringing our total to over 50 in two years. My daughter and I both inherited the "chicken gene" from my great-grandmother (and my grandma and mom, to some extent). I'd have hundreds if I knew my husband wouldn't make sleep with them in the coop!

Awh! Hope it goes fantastically smooth for everyone!! I hate it too!!! Our Black Sex Link (Nevermore) started picking on everyone smaller than her/him. A couple would peck back but for the most part, she/he was being a huge bully and got separated from the smaller girls and put in with the bigger girls. She/he's actually much nicer now and has worked her/his way to being a couple big birds higher in the pecking order. Integrating the youngest ones in with the oldest ones, hopefully won't be too difficult for us as they're only a few weeks apart but we are starting out dividing the run into two to help ease everyone into being together. Wow!!!! That packing is amazing!!!! They look extremely secure! Sweet and absolutely adorable babies!!!!

Hah!!! Chicken Man sent me to TSC today to buy a trough feeder for the big girls. I was amazed that he trusted me to not come home with more chicks!!! I can't say I wasn't tempted... but thankfully they still didn't have the new ones out front and they had sold everybody else. (Marked everyone down to $.50/chick!) I'm working on my hatchery list but I much prefer paper catalogs to online catalogs. Wish list to come!

Since we are talking hatchery catalogs now, I had a question. Has anyone ordered chicks from tractor supply online vs say Murray McMurray or any other hatchery? TSC is alot cheaper, but is it worth the extra cost to order from somewhere else? I have never ordered chicks so I'm clueless.

Awh! I bet those are super cute!! Gotta love the chicken gene!! My great-great-grandma and my great-grandma had all kinds of animals, including chickens. My grandma grew up with all of them but only had a few dogs or her mother's cats. My mom would have all the chickens she could get her hands on if she was in good enough health to take care of them right now. She's trying her hardest to get in better health so that she can keep some. I told her she was welcome to come spend time with mine and that if a few ended up wandering their way to her house, that was okay, too. Lol.
