Chicken math prevailed!

Since we are talking hatchery catalogs now, I had a question. Has anyone ordered chicks from tractor supply online vs say Murray McMurray or any other hatchery? TSC is alot cheaper, but is it worth the extra cost to order from somewhere else? I have never ordered chicks so I'm clueless.

TSC gets theirs shipped in from Hoover's. So essentially you're getting the TSC price to have them shipped from Hoover's without paying Hoover's shipping. I've looked at the price difference and it's minimal until you get to the shipping. Personally, I'd prefer directly from the hatchery and budget in the cost of shipping. What're you looking for, Jersey Giants? I have Hoover's, Meyer, Cackle and Murray McMurray as well as TSC all pulled up on my computer right now. I can price compare everybody for you and report back. Lol. I'm like you, haven't ordered them but I do wonder if the extra cost is worth it. It seems like it might be to get exactly what you want from a potentially better source than TSC. Like the returns/refunds, extra chicks, x number of hour guarantees and so on.

Murray McMurray doesn't charge shipping. So I have been debating doing 10 female and 5 unsexed for like $63. Or TSC has 10 for $25 unsexed.

I mean... Could always try it out from TSC and if it doesn't work out well, you'll know for next time and it wasn't a $63 lesson learned. And then you'd have the experience to tell us about! Hah!

I'm sitting here trying to find Purina medicated starter in a bigger bag than 5lbs and the stock list for our TSC says we have it...... even though it's nowhere to be found at our TSC according to the employees....... Makes me wonder if it's in the back somewhere and they just don't want to go get it.

I'm sitting here trying to find Purina medicated starter in a bigger bag than 5lbs and the stock list for our TSC says we have it...... even though it's nowhere to be found at our TSC according to the employees....... Makes me wonder if it's in the back somewhere and they just don't want to go get it.

Extremely. I'm going to have to go out of state to get it. Just stupid. A feed store less than a mile away from my house and I'm gunna have to drive an hour, round trip, to actually get what I need. 5lbs of feed is gone quick when dispersed into 4 feeders between 30 chicks. And three 5lb bags cost the same as one 50lb bag. Just... no.

Only other store is where we got the last 50lb bag (some brand I've never heard of) from and it was full of weevils. Full. Of. Weevils. I can't even.... I know some say it'll be alright, others say it isn't, regardless, it's gross to me and my feed stays inside my house. I don't want weevils in my flour!!! Also, Chicken Man bought it and didn't read the protein content and the lady at the store swears she feeds all her chicks this same feed and they do great... 23% protein. Way too high. They aren't open today which is fine since I bought a small bag but I honestly don't want to buy anything else from there and end up with another bag full of weevils. I can't go there by myself because of what part of town it's in so that's an entire family trip and I don't want my kids in that area. Lol. I just need TSC to shape up and fly right.
