Chicken math prevailed!

That is going to be a nice big coop. if you go by the text book sq ft needs per chicken, that coop will hold 36, 4 sq ft in the coop per bird and then 10 sq ft per bird in the run. While we're rural, I still had to stay within county guidelines for the size of the building I could have without having to have a building permit. 300 sq ft. I could add on to the new one if I needed. lol, I went with the shape I did because of the dimensions of lumber.. wanted as little cutting having to be done as possible. My coops aren't all that purdy, but they are sturdy and keep them dry. I live in the desert so we don't get all that cold.

Yeahhhhh...... This is why I'm not sure that I'm done buying chickens..... :lau:lau:lau

Hey, who cares what it looks like if it's functional and safe!! Ours was formerly a chain link dog kennel! It's in no way pretty and everything in and around it (including my evaporator coil box garden planter) is upcycled/repurposed. A pool ladder taken apart and used for steps to make it to an old table my husband built that will hold nest boxes and a roost on top of it.. Definitely not pretty but the girls love it already!

All these different Orpingtons I'm seeing! What the heck do Jubilee Orpingtons look like? That's pretty awesome! So you're a chicken pro! And rabbits! Awwwwh, you don't want to add moooore eggs?? And sweet little fuzzy balls of fluff to later integrate with the big girls... Hahah!! (I feel like I'm a bad influence...Come back to the dark side of carried away chicken math! We have.... feathers...?) Glad surgery went great and you're back to chicken-ing!

Jubilee Orpingtons look like speckled Sussex but in Orpingtons....

I pass on the baby chicks thing, I did it for way too many years ,:old I'll settle for started pullets, (for now, until I catch the fever again) there's a feed store near me that sells 18 wk old started pullets, sex links and Leghorns, they get a huge shipment 3x a year, no variety but hey , no muss no fuss with babies.... And only 10$ each... CANT BEAT IT. :celebrateAnd yes love my rabbits,:bun I breed Standard Rex all diff. Colors they're beautiful and the fur is amazing

How stinkin' nifty!! Started pullets doesn't sound too bad, really! I know nothing about rabbits except that their bites scar you for life... in more ways than one. lol. The joys of working at a vet clinic with all different types of animals. I'll have to look up Standard Rex rabbits!!!

Oh their scratches take so long to heal, sometimes to bring in new blood I have to buy a new "stud" and they aren't all so friendly, I get scratched good now and again cant show my wrists for a month .... afraid people would think I tried to harm myself:oops:

Ouch!!!

The vet I worked for had an owner abandoned rabbit that he kept in the far back kennel rather than taking it home with him. We were instructed to give it love and attention multiple times a day. The little fluffy butt had its own TV to watch. He was super sweet and would hop all around you and into your lap and loved to be loved on but when he was done, he was done. I have teeth marks on my thigh that are still purple 10 years later. He was so sweet otherwise!
