I also ordered the cochin bantam special, except I received an email that said that they would be shipped the 23rd. You would think that they would notify me if they ran out and were shipping next week. I had planned to drive directly to the sorting facility tomorrow to pick them up so that they would arrive in one day, but I haven't received any tracking information to do so. I even talked to them yesterday because I added grogel to the order and payed for it and they said the chicks would be shipped tomorrow. I don't know what's going on, but if they did get shipped, then I need the tracking information tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to get it figured out. Thanks for the information!

How do you find out where the sorting facility is? I would prefer to go pick them up there myself as well but I don't know how.
I changed my order to next week from this week due to the extreme cold temperatures.

There aren't very many of them, so there may not be one close to you, but I happen to live about an hour and a half from one.

Someone gave me this idea on another thread. Apparently he as well as many others do this so that the chicks arrive a day sooner. Simply call the post office to get the real time tracking info. When they arrive at the sorting facility/network distribution center, you can request that they hold your package for you to pick up. I was told that they go from one sorting facility to another fairly quickly and it's the trucks bringing them from the facilities to local post offices that take an extra day. I've never tried this before, but I was planning too this time.

The email that ideal sent about the shipment of chicks went to the junk emails so I didn't see it. It's my fault. Apparently they were shipped yesterday (a day early). The chicks should arrive tomorrow, hopefully they'll be ok. I was planning to pick them up directly from the sorting center because of the below 0 temperatures.

So, how do you pick up from there? Do you head there in the morning and tell them you have a package? I just don't have a clue on how to pickup but I would like to as they are coming in next week. Thank God, NOT tomorrow (brrrrrr).

Ok, reading backwards lol. I think I have an idea now. But what post office do you call, my local one? I know they are being airmailed and will arrive the nexy day, I'm guessing. It's cold in those airplanes too so the sooner I get them, the better.

Mine go through Nashua, then Manchester and then to my local PO. My local PO was kind enough to give me the phone number to the "dock" at Manchester once while I was waiting for chicks. I called the dock and they called me when the chicks came in. It was the middle of the night. I'd start with your local PO explain the situation and go from there.

Ok, I will head over there tomorrow. I would prefer Nashua if that is where they start off. I am guessing that they come off of the plane in Boston. I wonder if they keep them in a heated compartment for the ride up (but doubt it). This is my first chick shipment and it's so bitter cold that I am hoping to get them as early as possible. I will even go in the middle of the night!

Last May I bought some Easter Egger chicks from Ideal and they have been laying the most beautiful blue and green eggs! I'm going to order one of these specials and would like to add several more EE chicks but I can't find them under tinted egg layers anymore, has Ideal stopped selling EEs? If so its a shame because the ones I got last year have been laying so great and are the prized eggs in my basket everyday and the hens are super cute with their puffy cheeks!

They are still there, they are called Ameraucanas. Look under their description and it says aka Easter Egger. I just looked at their website and there is a whole new list of specials for the Jan. 30 hatch. So this is a great time to order a special and add some Easter Eggers!
