Found this on Facebook, how true it is!!!
Explain your personal chicken math.
I was supposed to only get 4, that quickly turned to 5. Then hubby agreed to 2 for his son, that turned to 3 before we even left the store. I always wanted Silkies, you guessed it now have 5! I got brave and mail ordered 3, I get a free chick so that makes 4 new babies soon!!! Wow that got way out of hand.

Well we bought some property (6 acres) I picked up a beautiful roo and hen, a friend gave me two more hens... then I thought it would be super cool to order a surprise box from Cacklehatchery.com and that gave me 46 chicks and two ducks.

Two of the chicks didn't make it and then one of my hens went broody and hatched two more babies. Last night I lost my broody hen, because I forgot to close the coop door.

So that makes 49 chickens and 2 ducks for me. :)

Chickenholics anonymous. Its a 12 step program. The first step is admitting you have a problem. The second step is building a bigger coop. The third step is buying more chickens...wait. I already screwed up. Back to step one
I did not know this affliction had a name “chickenholics “ I feel so much better now. My story: “Honey (to husband) you need a hobby”. I purchase 6 chicks. Two had to be go being that they were roosters. Got 3 to replace them. Coop holds 6-8. Better get another coop. Picking up feed, oh my look at those little cuties. “Surprise Honey, came home with 7. So sad 4 more boys!! Rehome! Now waiting for my replacements. 6 are on order.

I did the replacement math too, had the same results lost a chick ended up 3 more, lost two ended up 5 more.:lau

Next year might be my incubator start, but I'm going to see if my hens will go broody first. My problem is exactly what you said, I will never want to get rid of any and roosters are sooo hard to re-home around here. :barnie
