Chicken Math

What do you do with the extras? This would be me, except I can't rehome even one rooster for free! :thoh wait my daughter took one! :yesss:
You start a bachelor flock. It's my favorite run on the place!

My four escapees - all Nankin Bantams - crowding around the front of the hens' run. The OEGB & Silkie roos are still inside the Bachelor Pad Run ... either really smart, or not-so-bright. Actually, just really sweet, and bribe-able!

I figured out to late into the relationship that my hubby's parents ruined him liking really any animal, but he loves me so he just keeps his yipper closed.

Okay, I have to ask. What's the story there? My hubby likes animals okay but doesn't LOVE them like I do. He happily tolerates my crazy, though. His parents didn't even let their dog in the house! :th

Here in Wyoming you can only find chicks if you go to a town 40 miles away. Then only for 2 months in the spring. Our feed stores can only special order them from hatcheries. I have had a good market for chicks and started young chickens over the years. There is also a lot of demand for baby and young guineas here. So I have had a wonderful hobby that ALMOST pays for the rest of my flock's feed.
That is great! It's a buyer's market here for roosters and pretty much any chickens. I'm so afraid to hatch any myself due to this.

My husband would definitely flip his lid, I'm already going to have two flocks!

His parents or mostly his mom is an animal lover. She doesn't just get one or two, she is not quite to hoarder status with some animals. He has grown up this way all his life. He likes animals but mostly if they are not ours!

That would do it! I'm kind of like this about cats. I mean, I LOVE cats but my mom got a job at a pet food store when I was 12 and at the time we already had like, 5 cats. By the time I was 15 we had FIFTEEN cats!!! Nothing like getting to history class and realizing as you're getting your backpack open that one of your males did a little territorial spraying on your backpack.

So, I personally have a 3 cat limit.

hahahaha, my husband finally relented this spring to let me have chickens...he said we'll start with 6, but he kept saying it, so I ordered 6 for everytime he told me I could get 6! That was 18. They arrived yesterday, and they are so cute and so precious that I already want more! I didn't know that chickens were addictive!

Mrr...
Chicken math?
Won an Omlet Eglu Cube.
2 legbars, 4 pullets, 1 silkie. Ambien+ebay=hatching eggs=2 incubators
Want a new breed, buy chicks from Cackle. Have to get x amount, but the rare are on sale. Plus hatching eggs (again, or still). 12 adults, 23 chicks, 7 chicks, eggs still in the incubator...

We have chickens. That's what's relevant.

Yup so asking for an animal is like begging for your life! Ok maybe not that bad but close.
