Ahhh and then how many added a second coop. SERIOUS fun!

I have had a great deal of help with chicken math with predators. Not good, my old coop was tight, but the new run was a disaster.

I have numerously restarted many a time. Chicken math this year - old hens, need to refresh, would like a flock of 8-10 hens and a rooster.

Ordered 25, got 28, sold 14 (that was good) had an old girl go broody, set eggs ordered 5 more colored egg layers, hatched a couple of mutts.

For a lady that wants 8 laying birds, and rooster, currently sitting with 8 roosters and 16 eventual hens. I am going into the hard part of chicken math - subtraction.

We started with 25 broilers, 25 RIR, and 6 ducklings. We had a 6' tall dog pen, which they moved into when they left the nursery in the garage. It was too many, but it was only one summer. The broilers we ate, so that brought the number way down. We had ducks and chickens for 12 years. I am starting over with many fewer. I have 3 RIR roosters, who will be going to freezer camp because they are too aggressive with the hens. I have to keep them separated at night, which is a nuisance. I also have 8 hens (Orpington, Brahma, Barred Rock) who are about 10 weeks old, and 4 Brahma pullets 4 weeks old. Much easier than 50, plus 6 ducklings, plus a young border collie who wanted to herd everyone.

well, the sideyard flocks are not completely off the table yet....

I *almost* bought a few Anconas at the feed store today.

I want some.

And I'd lost chicks to a snake.

But my brooder has 3-week-olds in it. And my incubator has eggs in it. I don't have space for them right now.
Very impressed with your restraint!
