Chicken math

Today was a sad day. My little batch of nine chicks has been moved into the main coop, and I am now suffering from empty brooder syndrome.
I went to the feed store, because "we're almost out of feed" with every intention of bringing home some more babies! All three of my local feed stores have finished carrying chicks for the year

They always have incubators......

I've been called worse!!! LOL! Better get one quick so they can hatch & grow feathers before winter. How many chicks do you want? You know most are not 100% hatch rate, so maybe you should buy 2! Never hurts right?

OH you know go big or go home lol. I want the commercial ones like Meyer has. Hubby wont let me convert the basement though. Something about hauling all that stuff downstairs does not appeal to him.

I am at or beyond my max chicken count this year. No more babies for me.

I wanted 15 as my absolute limit because we eat on average 9 eggs a day and I wanted to make sure we had that many or more. I now have 52 grown chickens not including 7 roos and 6 hatched from my INCUBATOR and 12/ducks

9 Spangled Orloff
7 Saipan
6 Malay
4 Cornish (dark and why laced red)
9 Rocks (white and barred)
1 Buttercup
1 Hamburg
7 Phoenix (silver and gold)
6 Ameracauna
3 Mutts (sexlinked hens)
1 NHR
6 easter eggers I hatched last week.. Gosh I've already messed up my math.. Who am I forgetting???

LOL now you sound like me.

Well I'm going backwards. I just got rid of my rooster so I'm down to 4.

Me too. I sold 3 BSL and have someone coming for the Polish and some PR. Kinda bummed about that.

I originally want five hens and a roo.
Two years later, I have 56 chickens...and that's jsut the adults, I'm growing out seven more

I blame the fact that my first seven all turned out to be roos and I had to get enough hens for them to share cause I couldn't stand to part with all my sweet boys...and every hatch I do, I always seem to keep at least one more chick
