My chicken math for the past week:​

Last Monday I had 12 guineas, 2 turkeys, and 30 chickens, including four 1-month-old chicks.

Tuesday I hatched 12 Marans mix chicks. That night, I lost two guineas to an owl. The guineas are back to going in the coop again, now.

Sometimes they need a reminder about why they shouldn't sleep in the trees.

Thursday my chick orders showed up, including 25 Old English game bantams, and 53 other chicks of various breeds (4 were extras). That evening I delivered 6 chicks to one of the girls who went in on the order with me.

Friday I sold 5 of the Marans mix chicks. That night I lost two OEGB chicks, but I was not surprised as they were not acting right.

Saturday I rehomed the two turkeys (hubby said they needed to go even though I hatch and hand raised them

but luckily I found someone who I know will take great care of them and they will be part of a larger flock). I also delivered 11 of the mail order chicks to the other person who went in on the order with me. That night I lost another OEGB, which I wasn't expecting.

Sunday I sold four of my pullets that a girl that I had sold 3 pullets and a cockerel to before. They were "duplicates", ie breeds that I had two of the same breed or variety.

Monday I lost one more OEGB while I was at work. It turned out it had pasty butt so I checked over every one and washed up any others that had it. I sold 6 more of the Marans mix chicks.

So, today I have 10 guineas, 0 turkeys, 58 chicks, and 26 chickens, including the four 1-month-old chicks.

* The month old chicks are being raised by a broody and are out in the flock, which is why I am just counting them with the chickens rather than the chicks.

600 chicks came in @our local hardware today, have to see them tomorrow. I got 6 week old chicks waiting in the brooder ready to go in the coop.
