Has anyone ever had a chicken go missing....assumed it was dead...and then had that same chicken just show up at your house to eat one day?
I had three black sex link sisters. Over the last year two of them went missing in a rash of fox attacks and we were upset, but made our peace with the situation and moved on. The remaining sexlink has been the heartiest bird, best layer and best chicken all around that I've ever had. She has come out of some crazy situations...escaped a fox, dodged a hawk...and has **thrived** through a bout with cocci and some winter conditions that had everyone else miserable. My other chickens are EEs, White Dorking, Buff Orpington and Cochins, so, none that could be confused with a blackSL.
This afternoon, we're looking out the window and I say to my husband, pointing to an extra "black one" - "What bird is THAT?!". He looks and says "holy crap, what bird IS that??"
This is a black sexlink, very lean, but healthy seeming andseems to be the same size/age as the remaining SL girl I've got. The rest of the flock seems to know her and hasn't challenged her coming and going in and out of the coop/food/water.
She just, *poof*, showed up and all the rest of the flock is like "oh, hey". ???? Is it even POSSIBLE that this bird survived? We live in an extremely rural area and we know what kind of birds live on the farms all around us, none of them have any Black SLs. My flock is pretty laid back, but I can't imagine them reacting this way to a stranger.
We are seriously scratching our heads here. My husband says "no freakin way it's our girl" - I say....stranger things have happened! So, what do YOU all say?? Am I crazy? It really seems like the exact same bird!
