I've raised sets of chickens before but we just moved and I have a never before seen murder scene. I've seen fox destruction before (22 chicks in one night!!). This chicken was completely eaten except for the head, feathers, and some intestines and it was done inside the electrified poultry netting (I think the predator can jump or doesn't mind getting shocked). The murder occurred between 5PM and 9PM. I live in North East Maryland so that eliminates some predators.
More clues include a domestic cat we have, hawks have been seen today, electrified poultry netting.
Question: What predators eat 95% of body (minus the head) of a 1.5 month old chick in NE Maryland?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
My plan of action is to move the coop and electric netting closer to the house where we can observe better.
