Chicken "mutt" club!!!

Pics
My eggs are dead  :(   So I will not getting any mutt Araucana/BLRWyandottes anytime soon. I posted pics of the eggs on the broody thread and everyone said they were not going to hatch and looked like 7 day quitters. Right now my broody is not healthy enough to give her fresh eggs. So I am going to try and get her to go back to normal and healthy, the next time she goes broody i will let her try again.
Oh no! How awful! My hatch wasn't very good. Very stressful! So different from my first. Had to assist one 2x! Not the healthiest bunch. The 5/12 that hatched are doing better as time goes by though. I'm eggzausted!!! Now I think my 2 Marans hens are thinking about going broody. 3 empty nest boxes & they laid their eggs on the floor in a corner! I won't collect & see what happens.

Hope your broody gets well soon & gives you some chickies!!!

@ what did I do & Shellz
Ya it sucks! I was so looking forward to watching her raise her babies, instead of me for a change! She went to the nest box tonight instead of roosting , so I have some work to do to get her back to normal. Had some say to get her some day old chicks and give them to her as her own, but I REALLY wanted some Araucana/Wyandottes so I am going to wait and try again next time. Hopefully she will be back and ready in a few months...if not I will wait until next year OR buy an incubator!

Ah yeah, love incubating! Sometimes TSC has them on sale. $35 for the unit & $35 for the egg turning tray. That's as cheap as it gets without making your own. That's what I got. Worked well 1st time, but not so well this time. I was experimenting with another technique. Now I know what works & doesn't work! There are some helpful threads for making the most of these cheap units (LG or Farm Innovators). I think a 100% hatch is pretty rare though, so expect to lose a few. Still, its a lot of fun to watch them hatch! It never gets old! There are hatch-a-longs every month on this forum. Lots of helpful folks!

Sounds like alot of fun! I am actually leaning more towards incubating them myself. My broody that had been sitting on eggs has been having a difficult time getting back into the flock. The other hens are pecking her.....so she has been staying off by herself or trying to get into my chick pen with my 6 week old chicks. I also would enjoy watching the chicks hatch. So best case senario would be to get my broody sitting on dummy eggs and hatch the chicks in the bator then take them out and put them under the broody and get her to raise them for me!

Sounds like a great plan!

Are they Easter Eggers? I am glad they are so friendly. The first batch of chicks that I raised were also very friendly. This second batch from TSC 2 out of the 6 are friendly the rest are terrible! I think they are predisposed to like people from genetics, no matter how much time I spend with the unfriendlies it does not really seem to be changing them at all.

I am about to set eggs in the incubator w/i the next few days, the possible chickie daddies will be

Little man and araucana (not a mutt though)

Oreo, an EE

or Jaxom a NN

The possible moms will be EE, NN, NN w/ top knots (mixes)
