And....What you've all been waiting for...hopefully. My little cutie mutt! She's the EE I've been talking about. Her name is Gem, and she is SO ADORABLE! She's fluffy and fuzzy, and NEVER poops on ANYONE. She's the nicest and I'm going to use her for the handling part of showing

So you all know, these birds are mostly about 1 1/4 month old. My Barred Rocks are closer to 3/4 months because they were replacments for the birds that died in the mail! <3 --Flytie <3

What a bunch of cuties!! I always love the EE 'eyeliner' that they have!

:D finally a thread that people don't tell me togo to another thread on!

I think they are right - but they sure are cool. Why don't you want mixes? They lay eggs or crow - and yours look neat. Were you told you were buying purebred chickens? The first one sure looks like my Silkie mix, the second could be what is sold at the feed stores as Barred Rocks (but they aren't really), the third looks sort of like a white silkie?, the fourth looks like some of my EEs and the fifth I don't know - never had a white chick. If you got them from a feed store or a hatchery - they are all just chickens - not purebred or show quality birds.

P.S. - they do look like "hatchery bred" birds for the most part. However I wouldn't call them "purebred".. most hatchery birds are poorly bred at best - mixed at worst.

I agree with the breeds mentioned. I am wondering if that last one is what TSC and places are selling Gold comet, or Gold layers. I haven't seen one, and don't have one, but it looks very similar to the red layers that my daughters picked at the feed store, just a lighter color.

Finally went and took pictures.

Lovely birds! My oldest daughter wants these too!

This is Brooke, my australorp. She's the only one not to run from my hand when I reach in the brooder. :(

This is Yellow, my Buff Orp. She's a big, poofy scardy cat!

this is Echo, one of my barred rocks. Her beak is a little red because about a week ago, she got pecked a weee bit too much and it bled. Don't worry, i put blue coat on it!

OMG CHIKI!!! I JUST REALIZED YOU NEVER WERE LOOKING AT THE CAMERA! NOOOOOO! ...Rhode island red btw.

This Is Cinnamon, my brown leghorn. She didn't like being out, so I don't have many pictures...

...My other Barred Rock... SHE FLYS EVERYWHERE. Her name is Henna, she's so sweet.

I just love how you can see all of their lovely personalities

My new mutt I took in today. The barnyard she came from had waaaaay to many kinds for a newb like me to sort out! I saw ton of the lacewing patterns on the bully roosters that were there lol. Her feathers glisten a green iridescent color I had only seen in ducks before! Lol Hopefully my girls will accept her in time.
She is pretty too!

I can hardly wait for my mutts to hatch next week! Monday is supposed to be the day!

I am sorry if I chased you off, but posting questions on the Ameraucana thread about EEs is rather dangerous. You were pouring gas on a smoldering fire over there. I was trying to save you from any grief from the "real" Ameraucana breeders who don't like EEs and are tired of telling people that their EEs are not Ameraucanas. Imagine having to tell people this once a week for 4 years.. I think anybody would get tired of it after awhile.

I LOVE my EE mutts and I have been raising them for over 20 years, that's how much I love them.. but I also have some Ameraucanas that I am learning to like too.

If the hatcheries and feed stores would stop using the wrong names for their birds, and unknowing or uncaring Ameraucana breeders trying to make a quick buck would stop mixing colors and not telling their customers, then there wouldn't be this tension in the Ameraucana breeders who are trying to breed to standards and keep their birds "purebred" by the SOP. Its a new breed, there is still a lot of work - and having people mix them up is undoing their hard work.

There are at least 3 threads I know of on BYC where we love EEs and Mixes and Mutts... let's let the ones who only want Ameraucanas have their own thread in peace?

I think this is spot on. It is unfortunate that it must keep being repeated, and really it would be wonderful if the hatcheries would really label their birds what they really are. It doesn't make me love the ones I have any less.

I started with "feed store" chicks because I could afford them and wasn't sure I could keep them alive.

A year later, I decided that I really enjoy it,and I think that quality breeding is where I would like to go... someday. Unfortunately because most newbies are told false information about their birds from the getgo it does ruffle some feathers on those who put in years worth of time into breeding beauties!
