It could be a buildup of fluid under the skin, trapped and unable to drain. The fluid might be simply serous fluid or blood---very hard to say what it is. This could account for the firmness you feel. I am not sure about the color of her skin---could be bruising.
I don't know whether the dark area you are seeing is a scab or eschar (dead patch that forms over an ischemic area). That yellow area next to the dark area---is that drainage or is it firm? If it is firm it may be exposed fat.
I would keep doing what you are doing and monitor for now. If there is truly an infection it may be more obvious a bit later.
If you can I would clip the feathers that are hanging in the open wound---they will act as a wick for bacteria.
How is she doing otherwise? Eating, pooping?
