Chicken newbie.. why is she red?

Go easy on me, these are my first chickens

The hen in question is a Starlight green egger, She’s about almost 15 weeks.

I was putting away the hens tonight and noticed one of them, a gray girl named Yara, her comb and face was bright red. Now, I’m blind, so I quickly checked with one of the other hens, nope. Usually she should be baby pink. Yara is Our bottom hen and currently fighting to out rank the newest pullets, but none of the babies were out and about at this time. She was simply not wanting to go to her coop for the night. I didn’t have my phone on hand.

is this a sign of her maturing? Eggs? Simply her expressing emotions? I’ve seen our cockerel go bright red before, too, but she is def a Fem and clucks. What could this indicate?

@Noah P So I didn't get a photo of her red face, but I did edit a picture of how it looked!

Also, I felt her hips, and they were wider than the usual pullet hips! I gently felt her tummy near her hips and felt something fairly firm (please don't worry, I am a very gently palpater as I used to breed rabbits)

I agree, she's close to laying. The comb & wattles will become bright red as a hen comes on the lay. You may find she will squat for you & there will be that perceptable widening in the pelvic region. Some hens become very *bokky* when they 1st start laying but that is not a given as some are the no nonsense sorts. If she is the first to lay, her ranking within the flock will probably become higher. Laying gives a hen status.

That's how it works with my girls! Layers outrank non~layers. Always. Other hens seem to know who's about to come on the lay too. Watch what's happening with your flock dynamics.

My Campines are nut jobs when they 1st start laying. They run round the yard screaming their heads off as they look for somewhere to lay. My Japs are very bokky but I have a couple of the strong silent types too. Everyone else falls somewhere between the 2 extremes.

Bossy miss Margery better get to squatting !! I'm convinced she's second hen just because none of the other hens wanted to hear her complain! Our top Jen better get to laying, too.. but that's just because she's a good leader and my favorite ive noticed the leg horns (third rank and fourth rank) be more pecky, lately, so . I really expected the ducks to be laying before the hens, but that's what I get for trying to put logic on ducks

Good lord, some of our hens are screamers. I'm used to those sweet soft like cluck cluck clucks, but don't you know it, lately it's been very perturbed "buhWAK buh-WAKK!" Usually followed by someone running full speed, feathers flying, or the distinctive sound of someone falling (jumping) off a roost bar. I tell you, just when you think you have the hens figured out, they start laying!
