Chicken Newbie

So, I've been thinking about getting chickens for a while. When we moved from an apartment in the city to a house in the suburbs my wife was on board with the idea but it never quite made it to the top of the to do list. Recently our sons have expressed an interest in pet chickens (a few of their friends have them). Guess what just got bumped up on the to do list.

I've always been a DIY kind of guy. I've been looking at coop/run plans off and on for a couple of years and seriously for the last few weeks. I thought I had accumulated enough good ideas to start building. I was in the yard looking for a suitable location when I stumbled over an entirely new option.
I built this about 12 years ago, except for the occasional NERF war the boys haven't been near it in a couple of years. I was thinking about putting it on Craig's List "free to a good home, just get it out of my yard."
Overall its about 12' x 30' built of pressure treated lumber. The "Fort" is 5'x6'x5' to the bottom of the shingled roof. This could become a chicken coop virtually for free.

Holy Swing Fling Chris, this would make an AWESOME A Frame chicken coop!! Seriously, you could put a few hours in a couple of weekends and be ready for chickens. Please remember, though, 4sq ft per chicken in the coop, 10 sq ft per chicken in a run.

Now, here's this:

Glad you're here Chris!

If you haven't yet, please make your chickens a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it! :D
