Well, frustration for the human at least.

Been trying to get my pair of EE's to use the nipples on the bottom of a bucket. After trying to get it into their little heads that the water comes from the bottom of the bucket for awhile, I read here about loosening up one of the nipples to make it drip so the birds will learn to use it.

So that is what I did. And much to my joy, they started to use the nipples!!!

So I come home today and check the water....and it is empty. Turns out that Lucy, our lovable little cripple hen, likes pecking at the drip so much that she pecked the nipple assembly loose. I found the bottom half of the nipple, but the metal pins and ball bearing are either lost in the grass or were swallowed by 'she who must eat everything shiny'.

Thank goodness I bought a lot of nipples. Was able to take a spare apart and reassemble the bucket waterer. Just hope they know to use the nipples when they do not drip.

Silly birds. Make you want to laugh and shake your fist at them all at once.

Well they are using the nipples. Caught my hen using them and then the rooster watched her and finally figured it out.

Watering the birds just got a lot less messy.
