Chicken Noobs: mark your fake eggs!!

Lol! I had some friends that like our eggs come over to check on our gals & take whatever eggs they would like as an incentive while we went on a 4 day vacation.
Well our carved and painted wood eggs got boiled for deviled eggs! Haha. They didn't figure it out until she was bashing them on the counter attempting to get the shell to crack.

Mine have a red X. They were to encourage new layers; not sure how well they're going to work for the bantams!

I marked mine as well. I only use them to "hold up" a heavy hen when she is broody. The laying hens always threw them on the floor, out of the nesting boxes. They hated them!

More than once the 11yr old has collected our wood eggs. Maybe instead of calling them fake eggs, training eggs, ceramic, wood, golf balls, etc call them fools eggs! Like fools gold. Haha

When my girls were starting, the eggs were pretty small. One day there were 4 eggs in the nest (2 fake, 2 real) and I took the 2 smallest. The next day I went make fried rice... yup, one of those small eggs was a fake egg. I ran out to the coop and got the bigger egg. WOOT! 63 gram double yolker!

I was glad I didn't chip the bowl I was breaking them on...
