If he were in an Indiana court and going against an attack-dog owner who's a campaign funder, the "judge" will make sure the trial has nothing to do with fair and/or justice. The "judge" will only play frontline guard of his/her political bosses' campaign funds/funders and provide the paid-for protection from their victims and impunity bought from the political campaign bosses in the form of special dispensations from the law. The "system" in this state, undoubtedly many others too, is more corrupt, evil, and dangerous than anything or anybody who could be brought into it.

A speedy trial?
That ain'ta gonna happen if all the lawyers can help it. Nothing will stop their gravy train as long as they can continue getting continuances.

Chickens are livestock. And if I catch a dog in my yard and I can get to the pellet gun before it is gone it gets s shot in the rear end. They usually dont come back. I won't chance one coming through and grabbing a chicken on its way. We dont have many dogs where I live and everybody keeps them on a chain or ina fenced area because of the 2 chicken owners. I"m one of them and they know we will shoot their dog if they are in our yard and get caught. My St Bernard lets us know when our yard has been entered. I'm sure we aren't the only people that can here him either. We have a fantastic alarm system. It's called Beauregard. If we could let him loose he would keep them out but everybody is afraid ofhim becaue of his size so he has to stay penned. We do have 2 other dogs that roam free and they don't bother anybody or tear anything up.

Now that reminds me of Gov. Blago's crap....long dragged out court and he wont be going to court until 2010. Crap! Oh you bet, there will be some paid for protection, etc. etc. and if the judge is corrupted, then NO one would have a fair chance.

Even Mr Harris' judge's name will be mentioned after the court is done, and he would get backlashes OR hoorays from us!

I really don't think BYC should be the place to disparage the judge should things go against Mr. Harris. I think that would be less than the ideal approach. keystonepaul

Um--why do you think so? I would think all of us chicken people should hang together, and if there is any political clout, why not use it.

But I don't mind hearing why you would think otherwise.

IMO.
since the homeowner was there and under restrictions he should have stood back and waited until harm was either caused/or in progress got some quick picks on his cell/smart phone then SHOT the predator.
I would and do the same as he did, but we have non diluted comprehensible rights and always fight to keep them thru vigorous and proactive engagement with our local governing agencies peacefully thru constant contact. so that all ordinances are written in plain understandable english.

I personally think that lobbying as a group (whatever group) is an important way to get your point across, and even to bring about changes. People just need to be armed with knowledge and be civil in doing so. Once you start getting offensive, arguementative and rude, the people you are trying to convince will just ignore you, or even turn the opposite direction. Sometimes it's hard to not be argumentative (I'm guilty of it myself sometimes when I'm upset) but the nice thing about writing letters and lobbying is that you have time to calm down and think things out. It would be wonderful for the people on this forum to write a letter to the judge lobbying on behalf of others like Mr. Harris, so that in the future they get treated more fairly from the get-go. Getting correspondence from this many people, and from all over the world, might make an impact for him as well as others.

What makes you think that harm wasn't already done or in progress? Why should somebody not be able to protect their chickens and turkeys? In the time it takes to get the camera and a good shot how many chickens would have to die? The birds don't deserve that.

In a civil society, it's our duty to make our views known. Judges, politicians and other public sevants will never know the wants and needs of the people if we don't open our mouths and tell them. Judges and politicians should be congratulated by the people when they have done right and disparaged when they have done an injustice. Remember, it's "we the people," not "we the sheeple."
