My first ever flock. All females. Two and a half weeks old, we did not know we would fall in love. We are such whimpos. If a predator gets one, Imma gonna cry. About half of them come when called, some give me a gentle peck to keep the chick service moving, and they are chest fighting. I don't know why.
This is first time they ever went out. When they saw the first bug, there was a lot of backing up and talking about it. The brave Tania ate the bug!
When they came in, they took thier first dust bath. Jewel got so into it, she was totally sidewayd, legs and head splayed out, letting me Gooch goo her on her stomach and feet. I swear she as laughing!
Who knew? Does anyone stop eating chicken after t hey get to know chickensz?
I can't hardly stand market bought chicken. Compared to fresh healthy farm fed chicken, it just tastes off, you know? Fact is, for chicken, if we haven't gone to get farm raised, I pretty much eat that morning star stuff. haha I call it fake chicken. Last week the wife and I clicked on a link and got something we didn't expect and now I hug my spoiled chickens a lot more. I won't get to the details, just it was horrible.Welcome to addiction!! Yes, some stop eating chicken. I have not stopped, but my goal is to raise broilers so that I can eat meat from chicken that have not been abused and had an awesome life.....
........But for now, I have chickens I would do a LOT to protect and will never be eaten. One of them, Jace, just follows me everywhere and shares popsicles with me.... She is my birdie love. (And the inspiration for my username- she is a bantam)![]()
Right now, my chickens are pets..... I have an eight year old hen, Emma, who never lays..... She is just around for companionship. Chickens make great stress relievers!
