First of all, you aren't sure it is Coryza. Secondly, there is an outbreak all over, of a mutated fowl Laryngotracheitis, which mimicks the symptoms of Coryza but not exactly. The symptoms begin as clear, runny stool. The next stage is a red, wormlike dot in the runny stool, followed by a yellowish diarrhea that continues to change color until the bacteria moves into the trachea and works its way through the side of the trachea and kills the bird. By that time, there is not muscle tissue left in the body, the bird has become weak and listless and has been rumbling when it breaths. This is accompanied by some sneezing and coughing sometimes and sometimes not. Sometimes one eye becomes mattered shut and sometimes no eyes become mattered shut. Sometimes both eyes become mattered shut.
I had it in my flock and even the veteranarians and the local college lab did not figure it out until recently. I have established a treatment plan for my new chickens in the spring. Tylan and other antibiotics just prolong the end. With this particular disease, even though they seem like they are better, the first chill they get will make them sick again or most likely kill them.
The best thing to do when you are not sure is to separate the bird and start adding Oxine to the water at 7 drops per gallon. Birds transmit contagious diseases when they dip their beaks into water to drink. Oxine kills the bacteria. This only helps.
