Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy: Those little seramas are too cute. Congrats on the hatch. I have heard they are hard to hatch.

Muggs: I have the exact same problem with chicks. Even my mutts I hatch, I have to keep them and see what they feather out to be and then I have to keep them to see what eggs they will lay. I have an easier time getting rid of them when they are like a year old if they aren't "cool" LOL! So I keep hatching and collecting.

hence the addiction problem.

That's a relief it is not just me! I thought I'd be getting better the more hatching I've done. Part of the problem is, I can't tell the roos right away. That's the first hurdle.

I have these gorgeous Strawberry Blonde EE's that I can't wait to grow up and lay. I'm hoping for a huge green egg. The moms are New Hampshires and the Dad is a Buff Ameraucana...the moms lay a colossal burnt sienna colored egg. I hope to get a colossal green egger out of the mix. We'll see!

OMG! I am terrible at telling roos. I can't tell until they crow. I am so afraid to accidentally give away a hen that I don't care how red and how big the comb is I don't believe it is a rooster until it crows.

Well, I heard that Australorp crow!

Which one do you think may be a roo now? I have LOTS of chicks that I got from you that are walking tall and looking like they are going to be Trouble (Roos)!

Aaaaugh! I am such an addict, I just bought 7 more chicks!!!! They were on Craigslist and I can't resist a bargain on chicks!!! I am going to pick them up later today! Of course, I also sold 8 started pullets today,so it works, right!?!?!?

I love chicken math!!!!

Well that Austraulorp you heard is my only one I know for sure is a roo. He is nice so he can stay for a while. On my chicks, yeah I have no clue.

Which chicks did you sell??? Oh and what kind did you buy?? Must tell me these things.!!!

I sold my month old pullets, they are cute, but multiple age groups means multiple brooders and that means more work.

I bought 7 "hatchery assortment" pullets that were hatched on Feb 9th, so they should blend nicely with the chick brooder.

I sold off most of my NYD hatch, saving a few without red combs and one is looking very roo-ish. Sigh. My new battle plan is to keep em until I am 'almost sure' then sell the roos as roos - will be harder to get rid of that way and I can't wait until they ALL crow or my neighbors will kill me. But then I get to keep the girls.

If you ever want to sell the Spitz check with me first. I love the 2 you already shared with me.
