Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

The chick addiction has struck again! Picked up 5 newbies yesterday morning....2 EEs and 3 SLWD!!!!!! The feed store got the SLWD in a surprise delivery last week of 200 extra chicks!! They had the EEs, SLWDs, and more Orpingtons.

IdealisticRoo: I sent you an email while you were in Vegas. All the little ones at my house are getting big!

Meagan: I got my isa/JG eggs today and they are in the bator tonight! Those eggs are huge and round!!! WOW!

I have been busy filling my incubator for my last hatch of the season. I also finally got my order of Marans and Ameraucana chicks that I split with a friend. So I have more cute little fluffies running around and 3 weeks to wait on the last batch in the bator. Then I am ready to be done brooding chicks. The yard work and Spring like weather is calling me outside and I am ready to be done with cleaning brooders.

Woot!! Isn't it funny to see those eggs next to a "normal" egg? They are nothing short of colossal! Keep me posted on this hatch...I'd love to see if you get all splash (IMO splash are so pretty).

I posted this in another thread, but here's my group hug shot that I got when cleaning the brooder this morning! I am thinking of putting up 10 chicks on CL this morning as a 'grab bag' as this is a LOT of chicks! Almost 40, counting one still in ICU..

Hello, I guess this is where I need to be! My husband told me I had OCD! (That is obsessive Chicken Disorder!) Just because I have 13 hens, 2 roosters, 32 marans chicks, 25 chicks coming from Mcmurray tomorrow, and he found out that I had taken 18 eggs to a guy to have them incubated for me! They are hatching this weekend! I had to fess up and tell him because I will need to go pick them up! Help! I can't seem to stop myself!! Lol!! The worst part is that 10 days ago I was carrying feed in my pens and stepped wrong and fell! I tore a ligament in my ankle. I am now on crutches and have to get dh to help me feed all the chickens. Ooops! I was hoping he wouldn't notice all those chicks!!

I just put 9 eggs into lockdown, 3 BBS Orpington Project eggs, and 6 of my own Buff Orps.

I'm picking up 2 Sportsmans tomorrow morning, one will be used as a hatcher ( even though it's not ) and the other for an incubator. Tomorrow at 4:00 PM I have 25 BBS and Lavender Bantam AM's going into lockdown.

Well, I set 90 - yes, NINETY - eggs for the Easter Hatch. Actually set 97 eggs, because I also set 7 call duck eggs which won't hatch until after the Easter Hatch is done.

NINETY. Y'know how most folks hope for perfect, 100% hatches and are disappointed, and how I - being very different - am perfectly happy if only two hatch out of any setting? Well, lemme tell ya, I am scared to death how many of these will hatch.

Some of them are "old" shipped eggs, as I held them for the Easter Hatch and so those will be a low hatch rate... but here's the list:

9 Blue Orp
12 Frizzled EE
7 Mille Fleur D'Uccles
7 call duck
7 Wheaten Amereucana
10 BB (I have forgotten what that stands for)
10 Blue Hamburg
12 Speckled Sussex
8 EE
3 "Painted" EE - project eggs
12 Salmon Faverolle

So all y'all "helpers" MUST keep me from looking at ANY egg auctions for at least a month. If not forever....
