The varied flocks are the most fun! I have a friend that only breeds one kind of chicken...to have such control!

I decided late last winter I wanted 5 chickens. Just the right number for eggs I thought. I bought supplies to build a coop and went to Costa Rica for a month to work with Scarlet and Great Green Macaws. It seemed like everyone had chickens there.
I decided to build the coop large enough in case I ended up with more than 5 someday if all went well.
When I went to get my pullets I went crazy and got 10.
I built pens over all the garden beds and a chicken tractor. I thought well since I have all this I might as well get some to eat.
I couldn't decide whether to get Freedom Rangers or a mix (autumn special). I ordered an assortment of 50. I was told my order was at the bottom of the list so I might not get any. I panicked and immediately ordered 25 Freedom Rangers. 2 weeks after they arrived the other 50 came. All of this was also a surprise to my wife.
At one point with packing peanuts I had 90 chickens only 2 1/2 months after planning to have 5.
Good thing I built the coop big enough for the 10 pullets from the assortment I'll be adding to the hen flock in March.
Luckily the last of the Freedom Rangers went to freezer camp last week so I only have 2 flocks to tend to now. - much simpler.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

lol! Thank gosh I don't have an incubator, I think my mom would toss me out onto the streets if that were the case hehe. I started with the IDEA of 2 hens, didn't have a big coop so 2 was a good number. Came home from the feed store with FOUR in case of a death or rooster.. One ended up being a roo and three were girls. Got four Wyandottes a few weeks later after getting a bigger coop. Got a Brahma somewhere along the way

and I am due to pick up an olive egger and salmon ferrari from a friend in a week or two, hopefully closer to a week than I will have my BIG 6x8 coop hehe. And a total of... 6 chickens? I've rehomed a few here and there because had roosters and a few pullets I ended up not getting along well with lol.

6 is a good number though, but once I get my own place with a little property I will have roosters and about 15 hens

I have eggs being shipped to me today and I am setting them on the 1st! I need more incubators! How do you encourage a hen to go broody? ALl the post I find are ones for how to get them to stop!

I have a serious case of incubitis!

Chicken stalker - you are a naughty enabler! Your multi-posting of links to your auction is borderline spam! If it wasn't for the fact that we all want some O.E.s! I think the accepted way is to change ones signature to reflect the availability of eggs or other for sale items.

just wanted to get the word out since it is a short auction. Good idea with the signature line. I 'll do that next time
