Hi I am WI chook chick..and i am a bird aholic.
It started with me gathering wild goose eggs when i was a small child and asking if I could keep them...That turned into me rescuing some wild duck babies on my way to
school, putting them in the bathtub for my mother (who worked 3rd shift) to find when she woke up...
I had a few hens and a rooster when I was 13...
I had a few hens off and on in my 20's, including a goose, at my house...she was a "rare tibetan terrier- a honksu apso" lol
I lasted many years between getting chickens... I kept parakeets and finches to get my bird craving!
and then the bug hit hard...A friend wanted to get some polish bantams, I wanted some other types and found former
rescued production hens that had been de beaked partially, and then got some older hens that quit laying, a SL wyandotte, a Black cochin, and a partridge rock. then got a bcw polish rooster and then some silkies...so about 20 in all..and i board them along with my horses!!!
I want some seabrights and sultans now!!! oook

Hi I'm SuperChemicalGirl... *hiiiiii SuperChemicalGirl*

So I originally only wanted just a few chickens. My boyfriend decided to build me an 8x8 coop. I then found Murray McMurray Hatchery with all their different kinds of chickens. I had to have one of this, one of that. Shipping is a minimum of 25 birds? No problem. I've read that approximately 10% will die just from being weak and shipping. Figure another 10% because I'm a novice. Convinced my boyfriend that any extra over my 8x8 coop holdings would be sold.

Fast forward...

They sent 31. Ok, so that also included the couple of extra phone calls to the hatchery because I had to have a turken and he had to have a brahma after the order was finalized. And... none died. Not even the one with the broken leg from shipping. Yay. I knew I took my 2 weeks off from work for a good reason, chicken doctoring/mothering.

So then he had to build me an extension to the coop because after being attached to them for 2 weeks there was no way I was getting rid of any of them. I asked for another 8x8. He built an 8x12 because "I learned my lesson last time making the coop too small."

Got rid of my stupid "free rare bird" polish idiot rooster in July. The very next day there happened to be a chicken swap at TSC. Got a turken roo chick to replace idiot rooster, but of course he needed to be quarantined so I had to get him a friend to quarantine with.

Then I was given another chick from the same litter from a person who just bought one and didn't realize they had to quarantine it. All that still equals 1 chick, right, only the rooster counts?

And of course the quarantine friend chick is a bantam (didn't get any of those at McMurray!) and now I'm in love with bantams... those only count as 0.33 of a chicken, right? I am in love with porcelain d'uccles.

I also want to get guineas, a goat, some turkeys and mayyybe a duck. Or two.

It's not my fault
hu.gif
, I refuse to take responsibility for my interest in chickens
woot.gif
. My daughters friend took my 5 year old grandson to see his chickens thats when it started. In August 09 we went to a local agricultural show and grandson refused to leave without a chicken
fl.gif
. A Columbian Black tail he called Charlie. A Little while later my daughter bought a few more and built a pen and coop in their garden.

I went along for the ride to a local chicken breeder and bought Sootsie a bantam silkie, she looked so pitiful i had to have her
hugs.gif
, she lives with my daughters flock. Now i have a white sussex too and my son is going to build me a coop and run in my garden to house 6 bantys (landlords limit no cockerals)

I spend the hours between training my collie pup on here reading posts looking for other breeds
caf.gif
i want different ones so there is variation to look at in my garden but its not enough I want more
love.gif
, i want to raise chicks breed some too
love.gif
. So now im frustrated
somad.gif
.

My daughter now has 27 chickens several different breeds and has had to move them (inc sooty and sweep) to another friends farm. We are now looking for some land to rent to expand my daughters chickens and she says i can have a corner of the field to raise my own.

Im a slow starter in the number i have right now (2) but that chicken math is going round in my head and dreams are more and more frequently of a field full of coops and runs housing different breeds of chickens, some for eggs, some trios to breed and some show birds.

Yes, the Ohio Nationals is my first time too. I will take my 14 yr old birdaholic daughter. She is missing a day of school, but oh well. It is only a 7 hr drive and I am super excited. I hear it only comes to Colombus every 3 years. This will be our first girls vacation. My hubby gets to stay home and run the farm. That aught to be interesting seeing as he is a total townie

I may even be nice enough to leave him instructions!

I want to go to shows this next year! What birds are you showing?

I'm just going as a spectator. I'm not actually showing. I hope I didn't screw up, you can just go right?
