My NY hatch is going so-so. Will candle again soon, but last time I checked I had at least 10 viable. I hope at least two hatch!

I missed the eclipse although oddly enough I woke up at around the same time and didn't know why. Maybe the moon was trying to tell me something.

when we started out with chickens, we wanted six. we got twelve chicks, because that was the minimum at the grain store for bantams. six were hens, six were roosters. about a year later, one hen got broody. we decided, what the heck, we'll let her sit on some eggs, odds are they won't hatch. 8 of the 9 eggs hatched, giving us 6 more hens and 2 more roosters. a year later we hatched another hen, then got one more hen from a school project, because one more hen won't make that much difference, right? then, while we were on vacationlater that year, one of the hen hatched 7 more chicks, giving us four more roosters and three hens. we gave away three of the roosters, and got another chick that ended up a rooster, too. in about two weeks, we plan to get a few more hens cause the layers are getting a bit old, and wewant some top quality show chickens. at the moment we have twenty five, since two of the hens passed away.

I love how chickens beget MORE chickens! What kind of bantams do you have?

I was on a walk the other day and saw the cutest red victorian house with yellow trim. They had a flock of black bantam Cochins scattered all over the lawn. It made me think about having a flock of all the same color! I have a "collect them all" phase going on in the color thing!
