chicken Math hit me pretty hard this spring, instead of starting with one- three cochins, I just went ahead and got all 16 the lady had left. I mean, I had to have all the colors, and had to make sure I had pullets and maybe a roo or two, right? LOL
So I mentioned a while back that my kids were going to use our incubators and our own eggs to hatch in their classrooms...well my DS's teacher accidentally unplugged the turner AND the incubator before putting them in lockdown on Friday, and didn't catch his mistake until Monday. Whoops. My DD's teacher came in on Monday to a temp spike of 106! Yikes. However, she had 2 pips this morning! I kept telling her she did a great job because they weren't cooked!
Phew! Those kids are so excited to see the chicks hatch!!!! I love it!
After setting up the brooder in DD's classroom, those lil' monkeys were so infectious in their enthusiasm (2nd graders) that I had permagrin the entire trip home. This is the part of incubating that is so much fun...to relive it through someone elses eyes.
Exactly why I keep a brooder in my living room and the incubator is on my desk! My daycare kids check on it as often as I do. They sit here and watch chicken TV a lot! It is so cool how much they already know about taking care of chickens. They always ask me when I am getting more eggs for the incubator so they can watch. They have got to witness chicks climbing out of the shell about 5 times this year! Soooooo cool!
It's been 2 weeks since the chicks went outside. We're still vacuuming pine shavings! We find them on the couch and in the bed! It's worse than Christmas tree needles!
Between the shavings and spilled feed and the DUST the chicks make...it is a nightmare cleaning up after chicks brooded inside!!! Also, I have shredded paper everywhere from packaging eggs to ship....everywhere! A little here, a little there. It's no wonder I don't allow people in my house!

Nancy, I would love if you popped in here to say hi and share stories. If someone wants eggs, they will know to go to the Buy Sell Auction threads. Thanks.

DD came home to tell me one more egg pipped in class. The kids were all telling their teacher how they can't WAIT to come to school tomorrow! Plus it is pajama day...so 2 things to look forward to!
