What a week...
Friday and Saturday I had two more peachicks hatch, that puts my peafowl population up to 5 now.
I have 3 more eggs due to hatch Thursday. The two older ones are growing like weeds!
They started flying out of their brooder so I had to put egg cartons over the brooder to keep them in, that kind of made me feel like a redneck!
Oh well
I put 2 dozen Black Australorp eggs into lockdown this evening, they're due to hatch Tuesday.
Ugh, we almost had a bad acident today with a rattler.
Yesterday we caught
most of the chicks and mother hens in the front yard and moved them out to the big chicken coop out at the barn. This morning I went to feed the chicks in the hutch in the front yard and someone, or something had opened the side door and abunch of the smaller chicks were loose in the yard!
And...we found a dead chick by the hutch (one of the older chicks that we hadn't caught the day before, not one of the little babies) and it looked like it had been mauled and slobbered on. Well later on this evening we're trying to caugh the chicks that were loose and one of the little ones was on the other side of the hutch trying to shoo the chicks out and my mother heard a soft rattler and she yelled at him to get out of there!! We'll we finally caught all of the chicks but one and we were feeding and watering them and Stockton was up on the hutch and he screamed "Mom there's a snake!" And sure enough a big 'ole Rattle snake with 10 buttons came out...he somehow got lead poisoning... and a big BOOM!
We're very thankful that no one was bitten.
Y'all have a good night!
