Marans politics...so true, so true. Let me know if you want Wellies. The mix to Wheaten Ams is gorgeous. I'm still waiting on my first Wellie x Wheatie OE egg to be layed.

I am hoping for speckled green...we'll see. I feel if I keep my dark egg making roo (Wellie), I can breed him back to the Marans for more chocolate eggs. I'm no worse for wear, as I just want a colorful egg basket in that regard, not to join the Marans breeders club. I've met a LOT of snarky, know-it-all Marans breeders (and by met, I mean chatted with online), that is not a club I would care to join. No one supports one another. It irks me.

People will pay for beautiful things. If your OE eggs have a rockin' color...they'll sell. And often times, people just want to deal with a nice person who loves their chickens! I think you'll be all set. Just don't do anything you'll regret later by getting rid of some birds now and wishing you still had them. That feeling is the WORST.

I'm with Featherz on the UTI. Have you tried putting small litter boxes in the area (or over the spot on the carpet) that the cat has chosen to relieve herself? Is the cat fixed? If not, doing that might bring her back into line also.

As far as scratching where you don't want, there are products that "repel" cats. Might be worth a try. (Personally I would wring the cat's neck, but I don't have children to censure me on doing violent things when I am really ticked off)

That was funny! I looked for blood in the urine spots...I saw nothing, but that doesn't mean she is in the clear. I'll call our vet tomorrow. After talking with DH about it, he seems to think she was shut in upstairs a few times when we left for the day (we shut the dogs out so they can't go and play with all the kids toys upstairs) and the back guest room where she sometimes sleeps gets the best crossbreeze...so much so that it slams the door shut. He's talked me down from the hypothetical criminal ledge...for now. http://www.pic4ever.com/images/fly2.gif I've cleaned the heck out of the spots and have made a valiant attempt at neutralizing the odors. Other than the throw she messed with, we'll see if this helps. If not, she will become an outdoor cat!

Cat UTI's are hard to spot - doesn't need to have blood in the urine. And if she did get caught in a room, that would do it.

One of my cats got shut in a room once and yes, she had to 'go' but she tried her best and peed on a book.

But since then she's been fine. And get a kitty nail clipper if not already and cut them nails blunt!

Oh, and muggs - I used to have a cat with severe incontinence problems - until I started using diapers (yes, crazy lady, but we had spent a lot of cash on this cat and had her a long time), we swore by Oxyclean to clean out spots. Might bleach the carpet a bit, so only use it if you have to.

I got a wooping 12 eggs today!! (5 of which were Guinea eggs

... ) I have 3 dozen eggs in the 'fridge. I'm sooo hoping they keep it up so I can start selling eating eggs again. That would sure help with the feed bill.

Every evening around 7:00 I have a Peachick Rodeo. The peachicks still haven't figured out they're supposed to sleep in the hutch...not the tree by the hutch. *sigh*

I would agree to maybe keep a small litter pan upstairs somewhere in case that happens as that could be a very good reason why she didn't make it down there. From all my years of experience with cats (and the fact I have 10 inside now) I agree with what everyone has said. To have one cat that all of a sudden has accidents, there is a reason not just because....
Good luck

I have 3 wheaten Marans that I am planning on sticking in with my wheaten ameraucanas to make Wheaten Olive Eggers
big_smile.png
Sooooo if I happen to be getting 3ish Wellies from Idealistic roo I could stick those in there too !!!

Speckled green eggs sounds amazing! You will have to tell me what you get from that cross. I won't get rid of any before thinking about it really long and hard. I can't wait to have a colorful egg basket.

Thanks! That's good advice. Called the vet, they said to keep an eye on her for another day or two, and if she persists, to bring her in before the weekend. So far, no new issues.

I love the looks of the Wheaten Marans. I hatched SEVERAL this winter...only 2 survived...both were roos.

Not at all what I needed in my limited space. I wanted Wheaten OE's too. Let me know when you start breeding and what you think of the offspring. I may want a few hatching eggs to for myself. (I love green eggs!)

Have you eaten your Guinea eggs? If so, how are they vs. duck or chicken eggs?

I got 18 eggs today! I think I still have 25 dozen in the fridge. Can't wait till I go back to work next week and I can start convincing everyone they need eggs.

Put an ad in CL and got only one sale.

Looks like I found a home for my half blind brahma rooster and my two chubby hens. Whew! He gets to live
