It is, yes, while this may be a misstep, the reality is many roos take a turn at helping to brood, settle in nest boxes, etc
Although roosters dont lay eggs, they do go in nest boxes and can help brood. I've seen mine escort his hens in and tell them where it is safe to lay. I've read a few threads here on the "broody rooster". Maybe he doesn't lay in the nest box like that though. But, he does check them out. I think mine was kicking eggs out when we first got him as it had never happened until he had been here for two weeks.
