Oh my, that is gorgeous! I never would have thought to use the blocks that way. Do you have a pattern you can share?

All I did was make sure the blocks were all the same size. I think I made them all 12", as there naturally is some variation in size. I added a 1 1/2" strip of border fabric horizontal between the blocks, then ran a continuous strip down the right and left hand side. Then measured the bottom length of your quilt, mine was 14". I used my cutting mat to figure out what size square I would need. (I cut the square in half to get the end pieces...make the square one inch larger than needed to get correct diagonal measurement.) My square was 11", when cut in half it was 15" from point to point. I backed the lining fabric with heavy interfacing so the point on the top would withstand being able to hang the panel on the wall. I think if I make a second one, I will leave the top point off, as a straight hanging pocket would be easier to make and still look just as well.
The sketch is not to scale.

Same design, but with 2 blocks for a table runner and a 2 1/2" black strip around the blocks. The checked ends were made with 2 1/2" strips, that made a 12 1/2" square that was cut on the diagional. The whole thing will be bound and backed with the black print that has chickens on it. Blocks are by Luna and Tonya? (I think).

Another busy weekend! Quiltfest here in J'ville on Friday inspired me to make this Drunkard's Path flower and combine with chickens. It's also a work in progress. I've always quilted by hand, but then, I had never done machine applique - sooooo, I think I'll be learning how to quilt by machine!
