Hello,

I have a silkie chick that is 12 weeks old. He was fine yesterday and then today seems in pain and lethargic

I took him to the vet and he just said he’s weak and has crop worms. The only thing, is that he will be laying down fine and the. The next min will start squealing really loudly and jumping around hysterically.. not on its feet but like throwing himself around like he’s being attacked.

My vet didn’t seem to pay a mind when I told him this detail. He looked him over and said he seems fine other than crop worms. He gave him a shot and some medicine and sent us on our way.

What could be causing the hysterical squealing and throwing himself around?

I’ve tried to catch him doing it but it’s sporadically. When we got home from the vet I put some banana in front of him to see if he was hungry because he hadn’t eaten and he did it again.

I’ll try to catch it on camera though. I hate seeing it. It freaks me out. I’m so sad for him 😭

Silkies are prone to wry neck, a neurological disorder that can come on suddenly. It has many forms, the neck contortions being only one of them. It can cause twirling, walking backward, and what your chicken is doing.

Try giving him vitamin E in the form of 400iu gel caps. Just pop one into his beak each day for the next few days.
