There are actually several good posts and entire threads on the topic of deep litter method here on BYC. Just be careful as your reading them to see that they're actually talking about true deep litter method using the organic process versus deep bedding which is a different approach. There are some misunderstandings regarding what deep litter is and how it functions, and starting off with the wrong approach can lead to very dissatisfactory result and experience.

I like to just use aged ramial wood chippings and other dry plant matter,
more of cold compost but works to decompose the poops.
I had to fix some drainage issues first and I'm not trying to make garden soil.
