I bought the same one as well, but see it as a temporary thing. The chicken wire mesh is not predator proof and merely there to prevent the chickens from getting out. Like the others stated, I keep my hens locked up in their coop at night to protect them and let them out each morning into the run. I plan on building a predator proof run later next spring. For now, I buried meshing around the perimeter of the run to prevent predators from digging under and into the run. As far as making it ready for winter, I would take the canopy off to make sure any snow will not accumulate on top and bring the whole thing down.Thoughts on these runs on Amazon?
I’d have a predator proof coop attached
I have one of these. Currently interested in seeing how it fares through the winter.
It was awful to put together, just FYI. Took us two days. We also bought caging wire you'd use for rabbits and wrapped the bottom third with it. We had to figure out a different mechanism for keeping the door closed, too. We use two carabiner bungie cords in an X across the door to keep it closed.
It works for us for now as beginners. I don't plan on keeping it forever though. So far I'm pleased but I did have to spend quite a bit more money for modifications.
