Chicken Run

I hope you don't mind another question about this thread... I'm at the point where the gravel meets the road (or in my case where the skirt meets the run). How do you attach the predator skirt to the existing fence for the run? Or do you just make the extra length part of your original dimensions for the run?
Thanks for any additional advice :D

For me it was easier to cut a seperate piece for the skirting and attach it afterwards. I used pieces of hardware cloth that went out at least 36 inches and attached it to the existing run with heavy duty staples that were hammered in. If you do that make sure that you put in staples about every 6 inches so as not to leave any spaces for rodents to squeeze through. Covering the skirt with gravel is a good idea.

Just building our run now. Concrete footings under the posts. Trenching dug around perimeter. Hardware cloth in ground at least 18" We will fill the trenches with stone and then cover back with dirt. This is for predator protection we have every one known to man. As far as the concrete footings. That was for structural integrity. Makes it extremely difficult to move the run, and I know because I made my husband move ours over about 4 inches so I could get my automatic door where I wanted it. He was like a screaming lunatic during that project. lol

Quote: If you have a board along the bottom, just use fence staples
If no board, you can use "J clips" or Hog Rings to attach it directly to the wire.
I use scrap pieces for my aprons most of the time, and I see no real need to make them over 16 inches wide

Footings and foundations are only needed for actual buildings, since their only purpose is to support the weight.
A fence for a run doesn't even require posts set in the ground, and can be a simple wooden frame sitting on top of the ground.

If the corners and ends are braced and attached correctly, it will be self supporting
