Chicken speak

lol my flock knows by my actions and sounds what is going on, if there is yummies I call them with Here Chick Chick Chick and they ALL know to come running, when its bedtime I walk through the coop and any who haven't found that "special" spot themselves will run up to me and wait for me to pick them up for cuddles and to walk them around offering them "places" until they find the perfect one...whats really funny is the other ones that are still "waiting" for me to find them their perfect spot will just stand in a group that I will walk back to and offer my arms for the next one to hop up onto/into depending on the chicken and off we go...it makes for a long time in the coop some night but I never mind that :wee

:goodpost:my partner's daughter has yet to learn that lesson she likes to act like a rooster and she gets attacked all the time but its her "thing" :celebrate

A lot of posters have mentioned that their chickens seem to readily pick up the meanings of the words they speak and seem to respond accordingly.

It's my belief our chickens understand our language better than we think. I learned early on that my roosters quickly learn their names and respond when I yell at them to quit harassing the old hens who couldn't care less about the mating ritual.

The most endearing feature to this whole thing about learning to speak to our chickens is that each one has their own distinctive vocalizations, and when I mimic their individual voices, they each will respond every single time I do it. To an outside observer, it would be nothing more than the babble of a daft old woman, but to the daft old woman, it's a reassuring connection to the chickens she loves.
