Chicken Stock/ Craft Stock for Nov. 8th Tractor Supply Milford NH

HEY Guys....just thought I'd let you know. Elvis is doing good I had to let my Maran roo let him know who is boss and now he seems to be VERY calm and docile...I just do not think he 'wanted' the job as top roo...I saw Bonnie last night and she said Cotton Candy was doing well at her place too. I just moved my 2 babies from chickn into their quarantine cage in with the older birds...they are doing well 2 nights in. I was so worried about the cold...but they are all feathered in...doing well and NOT stinking up my basement anymore!

thanks.

I was at the TSC tonight in Tilton. I guess they saw pictures of the Chicken swap in Milford at the last one. She recognized me as I come in their alot and said my picture was online at their website but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, they are very excited to be hosting a Chicken Swap in the spring....I forgot to ask if they had an exact date but they have already spoken with the Milford crew.

I thought they could SET up BEHIND the building with signs stating PROCESSING DEMO...my oldest could handle it...and she will learn...but my little ones are still too little to see something like that. Although, I helped my Dad field dress a deer when I was 10...I know others might balk at that. The mobile processor if invited will need electricity and running water anyhow....so I'm sure the back of the store might have those things.

After Palin turkey processing on LIVE TV...we should listen and learn and we need to be prudent. Some people do not have the constitution to emotionally handle the processing of animals for food....which is why there are laws regulating it.

I personally want my children to 'know' where their food comes from and how to process safely...if that skill is ever needed! They have cleaned fish...so I feel it is along the same lines as poultry.

If you all decide against it...I'll have a processing PARTY for all us Carnivore's and we'll have a CHICKEN BBQ at my place!

Woo hoo... processing party! I'll be there as long as I don't have to pluck! I can kill em & I can gut em, but I HATE plucking! I always end up covered in wet smelly feathers.

Our kids have been exposed to slaughter on farm since they were very small. They've seen us slaughter chickens, turkeys & pigs and it didn't bother them at all. I think if anything, it helps folks appreciate and respect life more.

My three year old however has recently taken to becoming very upset when I mention killing something. I was talking to DH about doing one of our turkeys for Thanksgiving and when we should think about putting our extra rabbits in the freezer, and both times she immediately burst into tears and cried "No! You can't kill the turkey/bunnies! They're NICE!" We're even having to tone down our deer hunting talk because she thinks the deer are "nice" and we can't shoot them either.

At least she has no problem eating any of the above once they're on her plate.

I had the Guy I am thinking about asking out yesterday to process our turkey and to talk bunny shop, processing etc,

Let me tell You I was totally BLOWN AWAY, by him his wife and his wifes Brother.
Quick, efficient meticulously clean,( which at my house is quite a chore lol )

I wont go into the details, suffice it to say this isnt a processing plant style operation by any sense of the word.
Detail and compassion was taken to factor with the kill.
The wife held the bird tightly all the while talking in soothing tones. no fluttering , no flapping just went peacefully.
I couldnt get over the respect put into putting this bird to sleep.

I asked the wife if this was their normal way of operating and she said yes. The animals they put down are done in a way where there is little to no trauma, there fore making the meat taste better,( we know frightned animals tense up and release adrenilan making the meat tough.)
One bird fom start to finish was just over 15 minutes, the longest time was fighting with the sink stopper( lol) .
Rich actually made plucking look easy. 3 people had that bird nekkid in under 5 minutes, pin feathers took an additions 5 minutes, geesh he is pickier than an old woman.( ok ok Me ).

I was very impressed to say the least.
When the time comes for doing the Quail and Pheasants I am going to have them come back for the job.
Personally I hate the smell of birds, it will litterally gag me to draw one out.

I do think If we can set up with a processing Party I will have this trio come to do demonstaions, they are amazingly animal, people and kid oriented( my 3 grans showed up half way through).

Lily I have met your Youngest lol she is a little Doll. she can come stay with me anytime.
