i am the same way, i can not eat chicken from anywhere i hardly can eat the eggs. lol i would have been a bad farmer when we depended on eating what we raised. lol

She said she did once and it just sat in the freezer. No one could eat it.

I went to an Aggie HS. I know about the processing part of food production. (They took us to a horse rendering plant once.

But I am the same. I just cant eat them. They have names. Thought was put into their names just like it was put into naming my daughter, the dog, cats, rabbits and horse. Even the rooster.. who will be with us until a neighbor gets tired of it and then he has a pet home lined up, should it happen.

I am not bothered by those that get their meat fresh. I wish I could. But the meat aisle at BJs is still where we get our nicely cleaned and packaged chicken etc

We have one important rule here at the farm... never name the food. It does make a difference if you're slaughtering an extra rabbit as opposed to killing "Snowball." We do have one exception however.... Canonchet II is going to be Thanksgiving dinner. But that's because we have 4 big turkey toms and weren't able to sell one before the cold weather hit, and we didn't raise a Thanksgiving-specific turkey this year (and I HATE store bought turkey!). Unfortunately, his consistent last place behind all our other toms at the shows has marked him for a date with chestnut stuffing. It will be nice to have a heritage turkey for Thanksgiving tho... they taste SO MUCH better than the broadbreasted turkeys.

But except for this instance, the animals we eat are never named. Usually if we have extra boys or are retiring someone from show/breeding, he/she spends their remaining days here or retires to a pet home. We're actually getting a gorgeous registered Border Leicester ram for our upcoming fiber flock after Christmas because he's being retired from another farm and they don't want to eat the sweet, handsome boy. He gets to keep "working" here for breeding and his awesome silver fleece, then will probably finally retire to life as our lawnmower.

NO one should be offended at someone elses point of view when it comes to being Humane to Animals.
Everyone has distinct differenes of Opinions when it comes to food products they can and cannot eat., that I have respect for.
I personally can not eat meats from the stores, there are way to many AntiBiotics in them. main one being Pennicillian. I am deathly allergic even in trace amounts. No store bought milk, cheezes, eggs. I personally have no choice but to raise what I comsume.

If some one cant eat what they raise thats ok there is nothing wrong with that.
what gets me and really ruffles my feathers is the ones who shove it down your throat and tell you you are wrong in your way of thinking. The fanatics make me insane, which in my case isn't much a good thing.
I am a nutty enough person with out adding a Veggitarian diet to my issues.

I know what you are saying. I am one of those weird people who is a vegetarian and still have not eaten one of my own chickens' eggs.
Mostly though because I am not a huge fan of eggs unless I do eggs benedict or poach them and I just haven't gotten around to it, they haven't been laying that long.
On the other hand, I buy my family meat and will roast,boil, barbecue whatever they want.
I find it tough to buy meat though and the reason why is what you said. I do not like all the garbage they put into these animals before they process them.
I have to search out antibiotic free, steroid free and nitrate free or I won't feed it to my kids.
I can get alot of that type at Wholefoods Markets but they are very expensive there. I can get some at Stop & Shop but not as much.
Especially hot dogs, I hate those things but I can get the garbage free ones at Wholefoods, but again $6.99 a pkg

Now, all of my chickens are family pets and specifically bought as such and the eggs are a bonus. So no meatbirds here.
However, maybe if people want to do some type of processing at one of these events they could sell the meat there.
I think though it needs to be antibiotic free and all that, otherwise we can get that stuff at the store.
I think organically raised chicken or some other type of meat would sell well.

The way those people processed your chickens appears to have done in the Kosher method and I respect that.
I would suggest that if you hire someone to do the processing at an event you get them to do it.
I personally have been looking to split a cow with, I want to order a Kosher side of beef.
I want it to be raised organically and processed using the Kosher method. If I have to buy meat then I want it to be decent.
If anyone knows anything let me know.I have looked online and you can order sides of beef and have them delivered but its pretty expensive.
Its cheaper to do it with someone you know and a place that is close enough that you can drive up and pick up the meat.
The delivery charges were outrageous for these meats.
Again, if anyone has a lead on this and would like to go in on a cow, up to 4 ways I would be interested.

Cheep- where in Keene are they? I used to go up there to Cheshire Horse every other week for supplies. I would love to get fresh beef.

ok off to making hot fudge sauce. Got my first Etsy fudge order today.
