My Black Australop hen has a very large sty near her eye. It looks terrible and I'm afraid it will worsen. I have no idea what to do. I'm afraid to do anything for fear that I will harm her. If anyone has had any experience with sty's, can you please tell me how I can help her. She is doing fine and is not showing any signs that she is suffering. Has anyone ever heard of a chicken dieing from a sty. Can a sty blind her? I have so many questions. I'm so worried. I know that a sty is an infection, so I was wondering if her eggs are infected as well. Should I throw her eggs or not? Any advice that you can offer will help. Thanks in advance.

Oh my! Poor little girl. I've never seen or heard of anything like this. Could it be a tick or a worm. There is a wonderful website that has answered many of my chicken health questions and I did buy antibiotics once. The site is firststatevetsupply.com there is a 'chicken doctor' who will answer your e-mailed question. Good luck. I'm sure she will be fine and keep us posted.

Thanks for the bump. I haven't gotten any responses on what to do yet? I'm getting worried. I will go to that site purpletree23 and see if I can get some help there. We do not have vets that see chickens here, so no luck here. I'm sure this is not the first time that a chicken has had a sty this size. I hope someone comes along and sees this post and can offer some type of advice. Thanks.

Hi, if it was my bird then I'd hold a warm tea bag on it, rinsing that eye out with tea so when the thing bursts, that it won't cause more issues.
The last person I told that to, her bird went blind, so I hate to tell you its "the" way to go, but personally I wouldn't go for the big guns yet, antibiotics, as it does not look ready to pop.
Try the warm tea and if it begins to look large, angry and ready to release, then begin antibiotic. I'm most certain someone else would have the word much better then I.
You could also contact Dhunicorn, She's a pretty wise bird!

I tried to search for the person you mentioned (Dhunicorn) but it said that the name didn't exist. What did I do wrong when searching?
