I would take the rat in a heart beat... but I seriously doubt my dh would be keen on it. Never having owned one what the heck do they even eat?

rats honestly do make wonderfull loyal pets IF you can get past the creepy eyes and naked tail.

a very health diet for a rat would be your table scraps (assuming you have a well rounded diet) but you need to be careful if you do this rats will hoard food if you give them to much they are also pick eaters and will eat what is tasty if you give them mixed food

i used to feed my rats rodent blocks and give them frozen peas corn and fruit for treats rodent blocks are great because they are nutritionaly balenced and all taste the same so your rat wont avoid the good for him less tasty things

They will be day olds, I have to find out when they are coming in and will let you know.

Is he eating frozen or live, I only feed frozen, cant deal with the live feeding.

i switched him to live because the pet store i bought my frozen from had allowed their supply to freezer burn and adhear together ... the thawed mice were bursting upon constriction it was appaling and i was worried that the ones that didnt burst would be tainted ... but he sould switch back no problem, i'm only going to feed him one or two mice this week so that i know he has digested by saturday

that is so cute! I have two silkie hens that have been sitting in a nest box for days without eggs. the roo gets right in there with them. so tonight I gave the three of them a boatload of eggs. should be fun to watch.

Rats are actually sweet little pals. My daughter has a female and my son has the 4 boys of hers. (prego at the pet store:() The boys have a musky smell but the mom is clean and odorless. They all have great personalities and don't bite. Life expectancy is.......? At least 2-3 years. My kids' rats favorite treats are meal worms! I grow them for my chickens and decided to see if Ruby the mom would like one and she loved it! It was like a day at Dairy Queen!
