Chicken Swap & Farm Fest, Sunday, August 30, 12-4, TSC Augusta, Maine

I am confused with NPIP tested
Buy for resale, must have dealers license. What does that mean? Where do I get it and how much does it cost? I have only a few adult hens I would like to bring but I am not a dealer and don't know how to become one. Please if you can help....I would love to participate in the event. I live in Old Town. Do I go to the town office? Or is there a different place to go.
thanks

Your birds must be NPIP tested to enter a show. You do not need (but it is good practice) to have a NPIP tested flock to sell, unless you are selling at a sanctioned show.

The liscense, as I understand it (spook, correct me if I am wrong) is intended for two purposes:

1. Cross border sells

and

2. People that buy alot of birds with the intent to resell these birds for profit.

Does anyone know how to deal with an 'amorous' rooster'? THis morning my roo danced around me and did not want to quit until I shooed him and then he became abit aggressive...anyone know how to discourage this behavior ?

Thank you JenEric, no, we are fine, but drove through the "war zone" and it must have been traumatic for those people. OMG I feel so bad for them and yet, you look at the house next door, its fine. I bet they felt the winds.
Maine does not deal with these things! Unreal this summer.

The rooster...put him in his own pen, and let him out to have congical visits. One thing I do is grab the roo, put him under my arm and pet him, he wont like it and in that case, pretty soon, he will get the idea that you are the ruler of that roost. When/if he comes at you, if he gets to big for his britches, grab him and carry him around for a while. It will end those behaviors, because you are taller, and controlling.

i was out of state, I missed all that, a tornado!!! wow, it barely rained in NH and my stream in the backyard is still dry. I see on the news it was quite a storm!

spook - thanks very much for your roo reply...hmmm, catching him may be interesting - but I'll give it a go. Glad to hear you missed the tornado!

Make sure you take video! Giggles!!

Oh, and JenEric, you are very correct! We are learning aren't we! Thank you guys standing beside me through that rough time of learning.

Another thing that Bill M. said, how to break a broodie hen. Place her in a cage with a dry floor, no shavings. Then the next week do the same in another cage. After a week she will be comfortable and you don't want that. But anyhow, I have broke 2 broodies in less then 1 week! I put them in a cage with a perch, food, water and where they can see the other girls.
If she is a tough brooder, place her on a wet floor, not flooded, but damp, she will not like sitting down!

Interesting and like I said, it took both girls less then a week to break them! No eggs yet from one of them. Grrrrr.
Have a great night!@
