Chicken Swap & Market Fair Chat Thread For New Hampshire <------ Guess thats the NEW name !!!!

I'm confused cause I though the signs said "critter swap"/"market fair" on it or something like that !!

I figured the thread name would match the sign

So what is going to be the policy on weather cancellations? I had always assumed the swap would be held regardless of weather, be it rain, hot or cold. I can see snow causing a cancellation since the parking lots do need to be plowed.

Should there be a cancellation policy, or just leave it up to everyone to decide for themselves if they (and their birds) want to deal with the bad weather?

good question, since i figured sundays swap would be a no go since it was raining, but heather thought it was one.
my opinion (which means nothing here, but figure i will give it anyways) i would leave it up to the individual,
common sense will tell you??? that answer will be here soon.

I think it should be left up to the individual. Even if there was more organization it is tough to cancel these swaps, as they are so early, and you are assuming everyone checks their email before they leave. Look at it this way, if you want to drive 1+ hours and sit out in the rain (or snow) to try and make a couple of bucks.... more power to you, but unless I had to be there, I would probably stay home. My 2 cents.

ETA: Wendy were you reading my mind??

I'm really confused---the issue is all about the name and what name to use?

So what ARE we supposed to call them now??
Now i worry i won't be able to find swap/ fair threads if i don't know what they'll be called. I don't log on to BYC every day---sometimes i don't for days at a time...

As far as I know its "chicken swap & market fair - [insert location here]" . There was some issue with the market fair name, but that should have been resolved... no worries Abby, it will all work out.

I think that Chicken swap/market fair works just fine, or one or the other. Or we could just call it an "animal market fair." Really I don't care what we call it as long as the bickering stops!

I've been to swaps, or whatever you want to call them, in rain and sun, and once in slushy snow. People still come to look and buy, maybe less in bad weather, but people still come. Canceling due to weather may alert those of us on here that sell but what about all the public that comes to buy, and the sellers who aren't on here. It's not the kind of event you can just cancel at a moments notice. I think it should definitely be up to the seller. After all, Dan just bought me a pop-up for the events!

These events mean a lot to a lot of people and I think it is important to remember that it is not about one person or another, it's something we all share.

Please, everyone, if you are unhappy with someone, take it private! We need to keep things positive because new people coming in are going to see the bickering stuff and not want to be a part of it.

I was just telling one of my rabbit groups what a great community we have in chickens and I was going to point them to our NH market fair thread to see how everyone interacts and pulls together as a community. Then I started reading and decided against it.

You don't all have to get along but I'm begging you, please, grit your teeth if you have to, but lets try to put on a happy face for the sake of everyone else.

My last recommendation is that we don't respond to baiting. Don't respond to baiting messages at all. Don't have the mods come take them off, don't say something to respond to the message, just go on like it was never posted. Not easy, I know, but it will be better for the rest of us that don't want to hear the fighting! The great thing about the internet is that we can ignore what we want to.

I'm not on anyone's side and I'm not against anyone. I want nothing to do with the politics. That's my 2 cents

Westford is much easier to get to for me than I thought. Maybe I can get Dan to bring me down there. I would like to join. It's only about an hour and 15 minutes from here so not much further than going to the Milford swaps. I had always thought about carpooling with either Sue or Gypsy but it takes nearly an hour to get to them from here, it's faster/easier just to go direct I think.

Fun! Maybe I can get Dan to take me for the falconry thing, I've always been fascinated by the sport!
