sorry for your loss !
With the collar - are you sure it's working? was it on TIGHT /touching skin & does it have "levels" ...
My sister has THE numbest dog in the world - (although she's abused the poor thing IMO) ... and he has a very high prey drive - but when the collar is working properly and fastened securely - the dog stops in his tracks around the chickens (and in cases she's dropped him to the ground - sometimes when it was needed, others just because she was mad
... )
I hope your daughter steps up to the plate , or you find it a new home to save your poor chickies

Yes, I have trained many dogs and even put titles on some, I have done schutzhund work with the father of this pup too as well as obedience and conformation showing. She is just the dog version of ADD and nothing can detract her once she has her sights set on something, and unfortunately, it is usually something she will get into trouble for! I had it on level 5, could see her neck muscles twitching and she still was intent on getting at the chicken!
I can totally understand "numb" dogs x( ... honestly my sisters dog wags it's tail when you yell at him (for something he was caught doing red handed and knows was wrong - like counter surfing/trash picking etc) ... ...
GOOD LUCK! ... I'd probably opt for trying the old "tie the dead chicken to the collar" trick for the day - even a dog with ADD has to find that annoying
... my sisters dog hasn't gotten any of my chickens - luckily (but it's been close!).
... again sorry for the loss of the little survivor chick ... it's especially hard when they make it through so much and something beyond your control happens to them
...
