Chicken Swaps Of Nh ( May Listings )

you have 3 grandbabies. 1 looks like a buff orp. the other 2 are feather footed. 1 white,1 black and white. any guesses as to color?

Wow, don't know where the white one came from maybe it will turn out splash, I don't have any white ones anymore. The black and white will probably be black. The buff orp should be pure from the little lady who used to sneak under the fence to get with her man...........lol.

We sold some of the chicks yesterday so the white orp and one of the buff orps is gone and a few of the wyandottes. I will have to figure out what is left and repost.

Does anyone think it was too cold last night for chickens that are about 12-13 weeks old to be out in a small coop? I am wondering if it got too cold because they did not seem to be quite themselves this morning when I checked on them, not like they were sick, just not as feisty as they usually are with each other. It is only a small coop they are in, about 4x6 and insulated. It was probably about 50-55degrees in there when I went in. There are 4 of them in the one cage so they would have huddled together and one of them is about 16 weeks old and a bigger breed of chicken.

Well i am in NH too, and i have a coop that is mostly insulated but not fully, i have a brooder lamp with a 250watt bulb going and my 12 bantams did just fine. They are now 5 weeks old, my silkie is almost full grown though, so is bigger than the rest. I did also have my younger standards out with them but the buggers were chasing them away from the food, and the heat so they came back in, and are very glad to be enjoying the warmth.

I did not have a heat lamp on as I did not think it was going to get this cold. I hate this uncertain weather we have been getting lately! My free range hen has her week old chicks out in the yard with her this morning and I am worrying about the 12 week old ones in an insulated coop...geesh, whats wrong with this picture? Maybe because they seemed not too eager to leap onto my arm as they do every morning, maybe they were a little "stiff" becuase of the cold! LOL

I also hatched out your eggs. Mine were this past weekend. 4 Blues(cochin feet) and one yellow with no feathered feet. Are the cochins pure? Nothing else in there right? Is the yellow one an orp? How do you know it is pure? They are cute!!

I have to sell some chicks. I have 50 in the brooder in the house 28 that are 2 weeks and 22 that are 1 week. BUT I am not going to a swap in the 80 degree heat with chicks. Will have to wait for the next ones...

Yes, the yellow one is a Buff Orp. It should be pure because I had her in with the buff orp roo. Then I let her out because she was used to running around with the other Cochin hens and she kept sneaking under the door to get back in with the buff orp. She would go in with him to eat and do her duty and then sneak back out under the door. There is also a SLW hen and two EE hens in that pen but the EE's lay green eggs. Big blue is the only roo running free in that pen and he is a Cochin.

Great! Thanks for the answer. What color cochin hens do you have in with Big Blue?

There are two blue, one black, one gold laced, one lemon blue, one I don't know how to explain, almost like the lemon blue but no blue........lol. Almost like buff with black specks. I think she is a mixed cochin.

I just wanted to take a minute to wish Darleen's daughter good luck on her surgery this morning.
