you must be very worried about the almost bald one on the cold nights.

she's always been very independent so she won't let me catch her to put a saddle on her back. she seems to go though her molt this late in the fall. i've had one molt right through to January one year. it seems that when they molt and how bad it looks depends on when they hatched. 2 of my girls were hatched in January this year and went through their molt starting mid August. i've heard of a 9 month molt but i've not seen it be as bad as it was for those 2. one of my oldest hens goes through her annual molt in May and is then her fluffy frizzled self by the end of July. i've seen her do this for the past 3 years since i've owned her!

HI Amy,
swaps start in April. they happen most weekends. you can buy, sell,or trade. dates and locations will be on this thread or on nhchickenswaps.com . people sell chickens, ducks, bunnies, crafts, food, cages, feeders, waterers. last season I occasionally saw goats, quail, pigs, phesants, pigeons, turkeys, pony, geese, rabbit hutches, fencing, rolls of chicken wire, wood working, pumpkins, hay, vegetable plants, flowers, soy candles, pet blankets, chain saw carving. you never know what will show up at a swap. oh ya, and most importantly, there are alot of nice people.

that is very interesting. I thought they all molted in the fall only. when most of mine molted it looked like the dog tore open a feather pillow in the back yard. you know, you panic and run around to see who got hurt till you figure out that there are many different colors of feathers on the ground and a head count tells you nobody is missing.

I have 7 adorable mutt babies that are about a week and a half old.....pretty sure they are half silkie half NH Red due to the poofy head and 5 toes the color on them is weird but im pretty sure thats what shells they fell out of....have some NH Red pullets and cockrels that are like 3ish months old...living outside and mixed in with the rest of the flock.....Japanese Bantam black pullets that are like 5 moths old....Roosters: Polish Splash, Black Silkie, Japanese Bantam, Millie D'uccles and I have 3 dozen chicken eggs and 1 dozen duck eggs in the bator. I think there are more but I can't remember lol
