Can anyone tell me the symptoms of an internal layer? I have a Black Copper Marans hen who is 39-40 weeks old and STILL has not laid an egg! She gets in a nest box every day, acts like she's laying an egg and even sings the "egg song"--- but no egg. I have watched the whole process, so I know she's not an egg eater. She spent one whole day and night in a nest box and I almost thought she was broody-- but now she's back to the old routine. This hen is big and beautiful and glossy-- just can't seem to produce an egg. Any advice??

if she had an egg stuck she would be panting and lethargic trying to push the egg out. sounds like your girl may be ready to lay soon! they start to go frantic looking for just the right place to lay their first egg. my roos are good with new girls and will show them where the nest is.

This girl knows where the nests are, she uses them every day. She has been "pretending" to lay an egg for a couple of months now-- with nothing to show for it. She's definitely not egg bound and looks and acts very healthy-- just no eggs. I provide extra light and heat for my girls. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
