Chicken that had sour crop not eating

If you look at the photo of where the chicken's esophagus is in relation to their airway, which is the hole in back of the tongue, you will be able to direct the fluids down the proper opening and avoid aspiration.

It may take an hour or over night to see results. Is there anything in her crop right now? What does it feel like? How large would you say any contents would be?

I'm not there to feel the crop myself so you need to enlighten me with descriptive words.

its a little larger than golf ball size and squishy. It was hard when it first started and much larger. I think I could I could feel the grain. After water, dulocolax and massage it got soft and squishy abut still large. I kept massaging and then it started where if air came up it was very smelly. Now there is not much smell and it has gone down in size quite a bit. I cant feel anything firm or hard in there and when I massage it actually shrinks a little.

That's good! Have you done the molasses yet? The molasses will flush out the gizzard which is impossible to massage.

Keep a watch on the crop. If the contents build up again, give a teaspoon of oil and then massage again, focusing your finger tips at the center of the stubborn lump. Keep massaging until the lumps breaks up and the crop empties completely.

Coconut oil slightly chilled is a lot safer to give than liquid oil.

Ok thank you so much for all your help!! There really is not a lump in her crop so I think thats good. I just hope she has not lost too much weight to make it. I am at work and won't be home till 330. There is no way for me to get home right now :(

I got a little more than half down her. I'll see but I don't think she's going to make it. She's just standing under the heat lamp. She's full feeling between her legs like water. Could she be getting water belly too? It's not huge but there is a soft fulness down low between her legs. I can't imagine that the poor bird would have that happen too. I massaged that earlier and several dropsof clear liquid came out her vent. But isn't water belly closed off from that?

Is the fullness in front of the legs or behind?

There is no law that says a chicken can't have more than one issue going on at a time. But she may have a shell-less egg in there if the swelling is in back of the legs under the vent.

Do you have calcium tablets? Tums? Give her one whole directly into her beak. If there's an egg stick in there, it will help get it out. Repeat tomorrow again. Offer plenty of water.
